U.S. Politics: #2 Government Of The United States
Hi, and welcome back to the U.S. Politics show! As we said yesterday, there are mainly 2 political parties, Democratic and Republican.
Today, we’ll be talking about the U.S. government, which makes decisions, and does other things.
Unlike what you might think, this government system is divided into 3 different “branches”, mainly to prevent an abuse of power, since at that time, the founders didn't want one single king to rule.
The first branch is the Legislative branch, which has 100 Senators and 435 Representatives, in other words, it's the U.S. Congress. They are in charge of voting and passing laws, approving judges, and declaring war.
Then the Executive branch. It is made up of the president and vice president, and they work with helpers called the “Cabinet”.
And lastly, the Judicial branch, which is the Supreme Court and other federal courts, which punish those who break laws, and eta.
In my opinion, this government is very “non-kingly”, so no one should rule the whole country.
