This is the New News Newshour, updating on the selling of TikTok.

ByteDance, the parent company of TikTok, has been under pressure from Trump for some time, with Trump giving the deadline of Sept 20th for the company to sell the U.S. TikTok, or be banned by Sept 29th.

The White House is afraid that the Chinese company will share info collected from TikTok with the Chinese government, so with selling the app to Microsoft, solve the problem.

But ByteDance is letting Microsoft know that it will not be selling TikTok’s U.S. operations, though it is saying it would let the company “Oracle” be the app’s U.S. tech partner, hoping that will satisfy the Trump Administration since Oracle is an American company.

I'm just happy that ByteDance did something before the deadline because it's hard to imagine the U.S. without TikTok. After all, it's just too popular.

But if it would satisfy Trump... That's something we're still not sure.
