U.S. Politics: #10 Trump Decides SCOTUS Nominee

September 26, 2020207 words1 min read

And there's breaking news about Trump, he has decided and is expected to nominate Amy Coney Barrett to the SCOTUS (Supreme Court of the United States).

The reason Trump could nominate a justice to the court is that after Ruth Bader Ginsburg died, there are only 8 justices left on the big court, and the normal number is 9 so that ties could be broken by the chief justice. And with Trump in power, he can nominate a new justice to replace Ginsberg, and with him expected to pick Amy Coney Barrett, there's only the problem of whether the Congress would approve.

And about who is Amy Coney Barrett, she is a Judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit, which is a federal court with appellate jurisdiction over the courts in the Central District of Illinois, Northern and Southern Districts of Illinois, Northern and Southern Districts of Indiana, and the Eastern and Western Districts of Wisconsin. The court is headquartered in Chicago, Illinois, and is composed of 11 judges, and is one of the 13 United States courts of appeals.

To me, Trump has just broken a political fight over the seat, and also, the 7th Cir. has a long name, right?
