Philadelphia: Shooting Of Walter Wallace Jr.

October 28, 2020194 words1 min read

The latest Black shooting in America happened on Oct 26th in Philadelphia, which sparked protests over the 27-year-old, Tigger has more.

“The scene was like the shooting of Jacob Blake, who was also an African-American, and they both had weapons, Blake a Taser, Wallace a knife. As before, the police opened fire several times, only because the victim “might have” a weapon. I think that if I were a cop, I wouldn't open fire if there weren't any visible weapons in their hands, but if they did any threatening moves, it would be necessary to shoot them for the safety of me and the neighborhood. As far as I could tell, Wallace didn't do any threatening gestures, nor had any visible weapon in the video that was later released.”

Thank you, Tigger. It might seem overwhelming, but as of September 28th, 2020, there were 721 civilians that were shot by police in the U.S., 142 of whom were Black. It is a lot when you see it as 142 Black shootings, though if you see it as 1 out of 7 shootings are black, it isn't as high.

This is the Newshour, thank you.
