It's World Diabetes (Awareness) Day
Diabetes. An estimated 34.2 million (as of 2018) people – 10.5% of the U.S. population, had the illness. And yet, there are ways to cure it. Today, we're going to dive into diabetes, what causes it, why, how, and a basic cure. Today is World Diabetes Day.
To put it simply, World Diabetes Day is an annual day celebrated on Nov 14th, today, to raise awareness about the illness. But what causes diabetes?
To understand diabetes, we need to understand how we produce energy. When we eat food, a sugar called “glucose” is extracted from it. Glucose is what we use to produce energy. But to get it into the cells, we need something called “insulin”, which is made in the “pancreas”. In the 2 types of diabetes, we stop creating insulin or not as much, usually due to the fat and auto-immune responses. When there's no insulin, we couldn't use the glucose, so the level of the sugar keeps rising. This is what is known as “diabetes”.
Of course, there are a few steps you could take to protect yourself. I advise you to go to your doctor if you have symptoms like lots of urine, blurry vision, slow healing, tiredness, and thirst. We have to stand up to this illness!
