Hi, It’s My Day!
Hi there, I’m Mickey Mouse, and I’m 92 years old! My birthday is considered to be on Nov 18th, 1928, since I was featured in Steamboat Willie, which was released on that date. This also makes Nov 18th, today, my day, or Mickey Mouse Day!
I was created by Walter Elias Disney and Ubbe Eert "Ub" Iwerks, mainly because Disney had lost the rights to Oswald the Lucky Rabbit to Universal Studios, and needed a replacement character. To be honest, I’m a lot like that rabbit, though we have some major differences. For example, my ears are circles, unlike Oswald’s elongated bunny ears. I was originally designed by Iwerks as Mortimer Mouse and made out of circles so that it was easier to animate, though was later convinced by his wife to change the name. There have been many tweaks to me over the years... But I actually like being depicted wearing white gloves, red shorts, and large yellow shoes.
Since I first appeared in the short film Steamboat Willie, I think you could watch it to celebrate my day! Bye!
