We Must STAND UP To Bullies!
Today, we must wear pink “pledge shirts” to stand up to bullies... Wait, why wear pink shirts? Because it’s International STAND UP to Bullying Day!
No, I didn’t spell that wrong, the “stand up” is written in Uppercase, which I think means to emphasize to fight bullying, not back down. So what is this STAND UP to Bullying Day, anyway?
It started as a school event organized by Travis Price and David Shepherd when a fellow student was bullied for wearing a pink shirt. They brought 50, yes, 50 pink shirts, and urged their classmates to wear the shirts, creating a “sea of pink” to support the bullied student. This was recognized throughout Canada and beyond, and by the following year, STAND UP to Bullying Day was created. The thing is, it’s a semi-annual event, meaning celebrated twice a year, once on the last Friday in Feb, and again on the third Friday in Nov, or today this year.
Bullying, no matter social, emotional, or physical, has been a big problem in school, the workplace, or even on the playground. But you can stand up to them by wearing a pink shirt, and celebrating this day.
