Happy Thanksgiving Day!
When you hear the word “thanksgiving”, what do you picture? A giant turkey? Your family, young and old, sitting at a long table? A feast? Thanksgiving can mean many things, and today is Thanksgiving Day!
Thanksgiving isn’t just a national holiday in the U.S., it is celebrated throughout countries like Canada, Brazil, and Liberia as well on various dates. In the U.S., it is also called American Thanksgiving, to distinguish it from other holidays also called this name.
The “first Thanksgiving” in America is said to date back to Nov 1621, when newly arrived Pilgrims and the Wampanoag Indians gathered at Plymouth for an autumn harvest celebration. But his holiday hasn’t always been on the 4th Thursday in Nov or today. It was celebrated on April 13th from 1815 to 1862, then on the 1st Thursday in Dec, and finally, today, since 1942.
“What is it with changing dates? I think it only makes things more confusing. If I were the creator, I wouldn’t change dates all the time. Anyway, the talk about food is making me very hungry,” Says Tigger. “So bye!”
