It’s “Black” Friday!
Here’s a secret about this particular Friday: It’s Black Friday!
Black Friday is, of course, celebrated on the Friday after Thanksgiving Day and marks an unofficial start to the Christmas shopping season.
The day was referred to as “Black Friday” in the 1951 journal Factory Management and Maintenance when referencing workers who called in sick after Thanksgiving in order to have a four-day weekend. This meaning of the phrase didn’t stick, but soon it started being used by Philadelphia and Rochester police to refer large crowds of shoppers on the day. Since then, it has gained the meaning it has today.
Many non-retail workers and schools have off on Black Friday, making it a four-day weekend – a good time for shopping. Because today has turned into a busy shopping day, stores have many special offers and deals to attract shoppers.
“I think I like Black Friday, lots of things are cheaper than normal, not like I need any in particular or anything, but still...” Said Tigger today in an interview. “Anyway, there’s even this https://blackfriday.com/, listing out all kinds of deals from hundreds of various companies and shops. By the way, I hope you can go shopping today!”
