Today is Dec 17th, and you know what that means. No, it is not Christmas Day, nor is it Ice Cream Day. Yes, you guessed it right this time, it’s Wright Brothers Day!

Wright Brothers Day is celebrated annually on Dec 17th, or today, since 1959, and commemorates the Wright Brothers–Orville and Wilbur Wright–who invented the first successful motor-operated airplane. They flew the first airplane on today’s date back in 1903, or 117 years before. Even though their flight only lasted twelve seconds, the pioneering 37-meter flight in a fragile airplane over Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, had an enormous impact on the whole world.

“Very impressive, I’ve got to say,” said Tigger earlier today. “How two people could change the world, I just don’t know.”

He thinks that even if you couldn’t go on a flight today, you could still do other things like designing your aircraft at home! “Well, good luck with that,” he says.
