Breaking News: New Covid Strain Spreading In The UK

The New News Newsminute has some breaking and terrifyingly dire news today. And that news is that a new variant of the Coronavirus was identified and is spreading in the UK.

The strain is referred to as “SARS-CoV-2 VOC 202012/01”, or “B.1.1.7”, and contains a series of mutations from the original SARS-CoV-2 virus. That is reportedly making it spread faster in the United Kingdom or the UK. It has also become widespread in London and southeast England.

But according to UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson, there’s no hard evidence that the mutant is more lethal than the SARS-CoV-2 virus and that the new vaccine is effective against it.

“Well, that’s a relief because it looks like people wouldn’t need to give up their place in the long line waiting to get shots of the vaccines,” said Dr.Tigger earlier in the day. “But that doesn’t mean you don’t need to wear a mask anymore.” He advises you to continue social distancing, wearing a mask and quarantining so that everyone can be safe.
