A New Day, A New Year, A New World

January 1, 2021171 words1 min read

Hi there, my name is 2021! Today, I am 1 day old, since I was born just after midnight of Dec 31st, 2020. But even though I am still small, I know many things, such as the history of New Year, which is today, Jan 1st.

New year celebrations began taking place 4,000 years ago when Babylonians celebrated the new year during the first new moon after the vernal equinox. In ancient times, holidays like New Year were on different dates throughout the world, you see. In 46 BCE, Julius Caesar consulted with astronomers and mathematicians and introduced the Julian calendar, which had Jan 1st as the first day in the year. That was, in part, to honor Janus, the Roman god of beginnings.

Anyway, let us get back to the present. Now, on New Year, people write New Year resolutions and try to make their lives better. A new day, a new year, a new world! So, I am off to write my New Year resolution. Bye, and happy holidays.
