Indonesian Jetliner Carrying 62 Crashes After Takeoff
On Jan 9th, 2021, Sriwijaya Air Flight 182, carrying 62 passengers, left the radar four minutes after takeoff from Soekarno–Hatta International Airport, Tangerang, at 2:36 p.m. It is suspected to have crashed in the waters near Thousand Islands, some 19 km from the airport.
Searches for the Boeing 737-500 have found parts of the aircraft and body parts, clothing, and metal scraps. Sonar equipment on a navy ship detected a signal from the aircraft at a location that fit the coordinates from the last contact made by pilots before the plane went missing. But the crash remains a mystery, with no apparent reason for it or any signs of survivors.
“It isn’t the first time a plane has disappeared for no apparent reason, though,” said Tigger earlier today. “On Mar 8th, 2014, Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 disappeared while flying from Kuala Lumpur International Airport to its planned destination, Beijing Capital International Airport. That remains one of aviation’s biggest mysteries.”
That has been the New News Newsminute, thank you.
