There’s already enough trouble with the pandemic getting out of control in the U.S., plus the investigation on Capitol Hill. But someone has to come over and make things worse, with 32-year-old Chicago gunman Jason Nightengale killing at least four and wounding four others in a series of shootings.

The bloodshed began Saturday at 1:50 p.m. when the suspect entered a parking lot on South East End Avenue in Chicago and shot a 30-year-old Chinese Ph.D. student at the University of Chicago, Yiran Fan. He later fatally shot a female security guard in the chest. Then a 77-year-old woman retrieving her mail. The 77-year-old woman remains in critical condition. Nightengale also shot many others before he was shot dead by police in a shootout.

“I am just so sorry about this incident,” said Tigger after the shooting. “I don’t know why this gunman would shoot so many people, either. I think guns are for protection, not violence.”

That has been the New New Newsminute, thank you.
