A Disastrous Pandemic, A Healthier Environment
With the pandemic getting ever more dangerous and deadly, it might be surprising that the environment is getting kind of healthier. That comes with a 10% drop in global methane emissions from gas and oil production in 2020, compared to emissions in 2019. That is according to the International Energy Agency, or IEA.
Why is that so? It is not that companies were taking more care to avoid methane leaks, but because they were producing less oil and gas, said the IEA. This downward trend could reverse by an increase in the production of fuel.
“Oil-consuming traditional cars also pollute the environment,” said Tigger in an interview. “That has also decreased since people are working from home and don’t drive their cars often. And, not considering other matters, we could keep that decrease, if we could, like in the dream of Tesla CEO Elon Musk, popularize the use of electric cars worldwide.”
