“The Del Monte Note”: Worth More Than $125,000

January 23, 2021150 words1 min read

Sometimes, people get crazy over money. For example, this $20 banknote with a Del Monte banana sticker permanently stuck to it – with the U.S. Treasury marking and serial number printed on top – has a current high bid of $125,000 on Heritage Auctions.

Due to the banana sticker, this note is nicknamed “The Del Monte Note.” How did the sticker find its way onto it in the first place? Because the serial number and Treasury marking are on top of it, people presume that the sticker got there in the printing stage. It got first found by a college student from Ohio from an ATM. It was auctioned in 2004 on eBay for $10,100.

“Yes, I admit, there are very few of these bills,” said Tigger in an interview today. “But why is the price doubling and tripling that fast?”

That has been the New News Newsminute, thank you.
