Rescuing Miners: A Race Against Time

January 25, 2021163 words1 min read

Maybe humanity’s greatest enemy isn’t aliens, nor AI tech. Everyone, even the bravest, fear time. They are racing against it, trying to win it; As is the case of the mission to rescue these miners in China’s Shandong province.

These unlucky miners, twenty-two of them, ended up more than 600 meters underground since Jan 10th. Due to a cave-in triggered by blasting in a pit in a mountainous region of the province. As of Jan 24th, eleven of the miners got lifted to safety via a shaft. That was only one of the several attempts to drill holes down to their spot to save them. Many attempts got abandoned after complications with flooding and various reasons. Ten remain missing, and one is believed dead.

“We can only hope for the best,” said Tigger after the terrible news came out. “It’s a tight race against time itself, and only time itself can tell the outcome.”

That has been the New News Newsminute, thank you.
