The Scam Behind Mystery Parcels
Have you ever had a situation where you receive parcels and stuff that you didn’t order? It could be that there was a misdelivery. But it could also have been delivered on purpose, in what is called a “brushing” scam.
Thousands of people experience it, with merchandise delivered from an unknown source; And the idea behind it is pretty simple. First, the seller sets itself upon any online purchasing platform for some product of theirs. They send this product to random addresses found online, with no return address. Then they make fake, positive reviews, which boosts the product’s popularity. That can make people believe that it is good, and by buying it, the seller makes money.
“Very illegal, yes, but surely successful,” said Tigger in an interview. “And that’s what companies like Fakespot are for, to pick out these actions and stop them.”
