Today Is International Lego Day!

Hi there, my name is Lego Policeman™. I’m part of the series of building toys known as Legos, produced by the Danish toy production company The Lego Group. And did you know there’s also this day called International Lego Day?

This day is celebrated today, on Jan 28th, because on this day in 1958, Godtfred Kirk Christiansen applied for a patent for a “Toy Building Brick.” Lego bricks can fit together, even if their shapes and sizes aren’t the same, making them very easy to build. And since the 1950s, thousands of sets of various themes, including space, city, pirates, and trains, had been created. These days, there are also themes like Star Wars, Harry Potter, Batman, Indiana Jones, and Minecraft. And in 1978, little human-like figures, minifigures, appeared.

Nowadays, most children approve of Legos, and adults like them, too. English television presenter James May even made a liveable house out of them, with a working toilet and stuff! So it’s time to open up your imaginations and build, Lego-style!
