Florida Anglers Catch Huge Swordfish, Breaking Record

January 30, 2021174 words1 min read

Fishing is a sport that requires interest, equipment, and most importantly, patience. It also requires luck to catch a fish, a yummy and giant fish. And these four young Florida anglers, Hunter Irvine, Timmy Maddock, Jeremy Rafferty, and Jaime Johanson, have just that, catching a 107-inch, 767.8-pound swordfish.

This length might not seem to be a lot, neither does the weight. But 107 inches is about 271 centimeters or the height of an average apartment floor. And 767 pounds...? You could picture that like five times your father’s weight. So, in reality, this swordfish is pretty big. It gotten considered to have broken the Florida state record, too, though dropping a few pounds short of the U.S. record for largest swordfish.

“This all lets me remember of when my Dad and I went into the Pacific on a boat to go fishing,” said Tigger earlier today. “The fish we caught was big, as high as me! But, compared with this swordfish, that seems like nothing.”

That has been the New News Newsminute, thank you.
