It’s World Ukulele Day!

February 2, 2021151 words1 min read

Do you know what the word “ukulele” means? If you don’t, then there’s nothing to be ashamed of because it isn’t an English word; It’s Hawaiian and means “jumping flea,” describing how fast the fingers can move on its fretboard, as if like jumping.

This instrument is more like a guitar, only usually with four strings, G, C, E, and A, and a smaller body. Traditionally in Hawaii, they are made with koa wood. There are also cheaper ones, made with plywood or plastics.

And if you have one of these, then it’s time to bring it out and play it! You can bring it to work, to school, to the café. Or, if you’re in quarantine, bring it out on one of those online videoing platforms. Because today, Feb 2nd, is World Ukulele Day! Let’s go for some smiles, a break from this terrible pandemic. Be happy, excited, and glad.
