The Communist Party of China, CPC for short and founded in July of 1921, turns one century old this year. And in that 100 years, it has made China into a modern and powerful country.

When it got founded, there were only 58 members. Now it is the core of China’s leadership, intending to create a strong and modern socialist country. Since it got founded, it has been fighting against local warlords, foreign powers, and the Kuomintang government. After defeating that government, Mao Zedong co-founded the People’s Republic of China in 1949. Under the CPC, China has prospered, though making some serious mistakes on the way. One of these is the 10-year “Cultural Revolution,” which lasted until Chair Mao died in 1976. But by the end of 1978, under Deng Xiaoping’s guidance, the opening-up policy got adopted by the CPC, laying the groundwork for four decades of fast social and economic development and improvement.

As of 2017, there are nearly 90 million members of the party. Maybe this year, there would be newer numbers showing how big the CPC is now.
