Perseverance Rover Sends Home First Audio On Mars
Over the years, humanity has sent many robots, whether rovers or orbiters, into outer space to discover past life. And one of the hottest destinations, Mars, has just received a new visitor.
The $2.4 billion Perseverance rover, launched on July 30th, 2020, from Cape Canaveral, arrived on the Red Planet on Feb 18th this year in Jezero Crater. The mission, launched by NASA, hopes to collect samples of Martian soil and maybe find signs of past microbial life, with the $80 million Ingenuity helicopter demonstrating powered flight in the ultra-thin atmosphere of Mars. Even though getting there wasn’t so easy because they had to endure “seven minutes of terror,” with the on-board computer managing the landing itself. It was lucky the rover survived that, or else the mission would have failed.
“The rover sent back a video and the first audio on Mars,” said Tigger in an interview. “I hope the China and UAE robots would land quickly and successfully as well.”
That has been the New News Newsminute, thank you.
