St. Patrick, St. Patrick. As you’ve probably guessed from his name, St. Patrick is a saint. But not just any saint. He was the patron saint of Ireland. And coincidentally, today is also his day.

St. Patrick’s Day is the day the saint died in what is said to be 461. Opposite to what many may think, he wasn’t Irish. He was born in Roman Britain, now England, Scotland, or Wales. He was kidnapped at 16 and taken to Ireland to be a slave. But he escaped six years later, began religious training, and later returned as a missionary. A legend of St. Patrick says that he explained the Holy Trinity of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit by using the three leaves of the native Irish clover, the shamrock. St. Patrick’s Day first began being observed in Ireland in the ninth or tenth century, and later Irish immigrants in the U.S. started celebrating too with feasts and parades. Now it’s also celebrated in other places such as Japan and Russia.

So get out the cutlery, plates, and drinks. It’s time to have yet another feast! You could invite your friends online too.
