It’s The Spring Equinox!
Everyone likes the smell of fresh flowers, the feeling of the spring wind. But some might not know the Spring Equinox, which marks the start of this new life cycle for nature.
Some might be confused because the Spring Equinox, which is also called The First Day of Spring, is similar to the Chinese solar term Lichun. But they aren’t on the same day. Lichun occurs around Feb 3rd, while the equinox occurs when the sun crosses the celestial equator from south to north. When the Spring Equinox occurs in the Northern Hemisphere, today, the Autumn Equinox occurs in the Southern Hemisphere, and vice-versa. During these times, day and night are almost equal. Days lengthen in the Northern Hemisphere as Earth’s axis, an imaginary line that our planet rotates on, tilts toward the sun. Plants grow flowers, trees grow leaves, and animals come out of their deep winter sleep, hibernation. Meanwhile, the Southern Hemisphere experiences shortening days, and autumn takes over.
No matter where you live, the equinoxes signal a time for a change, a time to ride bikes or play fallen leaves, a time for a new generation of the world.
