It’s World Meteorological Day!
You might have never heard of meteorology, but it helps us a lot in our daily lives. Especially in weather forecasting. So what is this “new” branch of science not known to us?
Meteorology is the study of Earth’s weather and climate phenomenons. It’s important because it can tell you when to fly planes, sail boats, and even how to fight a fire. Knowing where winds are carrying the fire, you can approach from the opposite direction safely. But the domain of it is usually the troposphere, where nearly all weather takes place. There’s also a World Meteorological Day, observed on the anniversary of World Meteorological Organization, WMO’s, founding today, in 1950. The WMO became the specialized UN agency for promoting international cooperation on things like atmospheric science. There’s a theme for this day annually, with this year’s being “the ocean, our climate, and weather.”
So can you be a meteorologist of your own? Predict the weather, and see if you’re right. There’s no harm in trying, after all. It’s just part of World Meteorological Day!
