NFT Artwork By Sophia Sells For Almost $700,000
There might be more than one Sophia that you know. But you may not know this Sophia, Sophia the Robot. And a self-portrait by her has sold at auction as an NFT for almost $700,000.
Sophia the Robot is artificial intelligence, AI, built by the Hong Kong-based company Hanson Robotics and activated on Feb 14, 2016. Her difference from other robots is that she is the first AI to have a nationality, a Saudi Arabia citizenship. She can replicate humans pretty well, with blinks and facial expressions.
Before Sophia’s time, AI was just imagination, whether in the Marvel movie Age of Ultron or sci-fi books like Interview with the Robot. Now, those robots are stepping out of them, out of our imagination, and into the real world. AIs could help us on the production line and even in homes. But with the line of AI rights still unclear, we need to be careful, or those robots could get out of control. Though for now, that wouldn’t happen. Sorry to give you the goosebumps in today’s production of the New News Newsminute. We need to be aware of the dangers of AI. All in all, thank you, and try not to get bad dreams, would you?
