When Easter And Qingming Go Together
Sometimes, things can be so lucky that two holidays of different origins go together. And tomorrow, that’s what’s going to happen, with Easter and Qingming on the same day.
Easter’s celebrated by Christians, commemorating the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Qingming is a traditional Chinese festival and also the second of the Chinese 24 Solar Terms, an important day to go and sweep tombs. But they aren’t always on April 4th. Easter is on the first Sunday after the full moon following the March Equinox, while Qingming is usually on April 4th or 5. There are Easter egg hunts on Easter, with children finding the eggs hidden by the “Easter Bunny.” On Qingming, besides tomb sweeping, there are activities like spring outings and kite flying.
Two festivals from two cultures. But wouldn’t it be better if we put them together? First a tomb sweeping spring outing, then a kite flying Easter egg hunt? Whoa, better get ready the chocolate eggs, as well as that giant old kite too, because tomorrow, it’s Easter-Qingming!
