Hamas V.S. Israel: Is This “War” Justified?

When it comes to the Middle Eastern territories, conflicts erupting from time to time aren’t that unusual. They’re usually because of religious problems and stuff like that. But there’s also another longtime clash between Israel and Hamas.

Most would know of Israel, the country in Western Asia, situated on the southeastern shore of the Mediterranean Sea and the northern shore of the Red Sea. But not all would know about the Palestinian militant organization Hamas, founded in 1987 and headquartered in Gaza City, part of the Gaza Strip. It’s classified as a terrorist organization by the U.S., Israel, and the European Union, though other countries, including China, Russia, and Turkey, don’t regard it as so.

Anyway, the two sides aren’t that peaceful because of the fight over the control of the Gaza Strip. Israel currently controls most things in that area, though according to the UN-approved Two-State Solution, things shouldn’t be that way. Of course, Israel doesn’t agree to this. And recently, Hamas acted by bombing Israel. But at least the Iron Dome is there to protect the Israeli people. It sounds like a giant, solid dome. But it’s, in truth, a protection system designed to intercept and destroy enemy missiles, developed by Rafael Advanced Defense Systems and Israel Aerospace Industries. But still, there were many casualties.

So that’s why, as well as intercepting, Israel was also firing missiles into the Gaza Strip. Those were targeting specific buildings that housed senior officials of the organization. That may seem wrong to most people: You can’t just destroy people’s homes, even if they’re the enemy. But thinking of it from another perspective, things can seem very different.

There are a few reasons for wars and conflicts. The first is in an attempt for more land. Centuries ago, this may have seemed “ordinary” to most since rulers were constantly destroying other countries and empires. But now, this is very illegal. That’s kind of like what Hamas was doing. The second reason is in defense of their country. That’s legally justified and is what Israel was doing. So if you think of the conflict in this way, Israel was not doing anything wrong. Hamas was the wrongdoer. No matter who controls the Gaza Strip, fighting shouldn’t be the way to settle it. What is the United Nations for at all? One of its goals is to maintain world peace. So differences could get debated over by calling a meeting in the UN. It’s a better way to solve things, with no violence.

That’s not only true in the world of politics, governments, and international laws, but our daily lives, too. A disagreement could get settled by sitting down to talk rather than competing in a fighting tournament. So what do you think now, reader? Have you changed your mind? Well, I’m glad to say that these two sides have also decided to take a rest, with a ceasefire agreement formed just a few days ago. However, if that agreement would hold depends on what they’re thinking. But until newer updates on this and other things, I guess that’s the end of this production from the New News Newsminute. Thank you, and think more carefully about what you should do when you disagree with someone else.
