Do you have a favorite sport? As the Beijing Winter Olympics are taking place, we here at the Newsminute have decided to keep you updated on sports in general. Get ready for the future of sports!

To start, what does “sport” mean? In our case, the word “sport” means an activity involving physical exertion and skill, where an individual or team competes against another for entertainment. So to be clear, chess isn’t a sport. It does require skill, but players don’t compete based on athletic prowess. And by “the future of sports,” we’re going to look at some new technologies that could take over sports as we know it today.

If you have or are participating in a sport, you should know that all the athletes on the award podium have trained for endless hours to perform in the tournament. And that’s when new technology could come in. It’s called the “Teslasuit,” with no relation to Elon Musk’s company Tesla. It’s an electric suit that can make you feel a kind of electric shock. There are many purposes of this suit. It can be used for gaming, though in our case, it can also get used for athletic training. By connecting to a tablet and other equipment, such as a virtual reality headset, you could feel as if facing a real opponent. Sometimes, just listening to your coach isn’t enough; You need practice. With technology also collecting and analyzing data about the athlete’s performance and techniques, it can make your effort easier, resulting in more effective training.

Another example of futuristic sporting technology is the FORM Smart Swim Goggles, featuring an in-goggle display of swimming metrics and instructions. Before, we only had smart bands that could measure things like heart rate. However, new technology means those are already the past, in the ever-improving world of sports. These lenses are kind of like your underwater coaches, with planned workouts. They even feature instructions, such as when to use what kind of effort. After exercising, it’s just a matter of reviewing with an APP on your phone. You don’t need extra mental energy to plan your workouts. Just focus on the swimming itself.

What do you think? Will new technology rule over traditional training? Is the cost worth it, or is the old-fashioned way still the most effective? In either case, remember: Sport is all about the pleasure that comes with it! So, that’s the end of this production, brought to you by the New News Newsminute. Thank you, and tune in next time for more.
