Hi there, and welcome to Part II of [Trump & The US Justice System]. If you haven’t read Part I, I suggest you go back and read it to understand more about the background of Donald Trump. Assuming you have finished reading that one, then let’s start!

You need to know of a date: January 6th, 2021. That is the date of the insurrection at the US Capitol, where many pro-Trump supporters gathered and stormed into the Capitol Building, breaking windows and causing chaos. And all the while, the crowd, called upon by the former president, continued like this for hours until Trump decided it was time to send them home. So why was a mob at the Capitol?

It all started when Donald Trump lost the election to Joe Biden. He has claimed that Biden “stole” the election since. That claim was labeled by many as “The Big Lie,” though is he lying? We still don’t know, even almost two years after the election results were certified. Most of Trump’s fellow Republicans also believed in this claim and started saying that the election got stolen. Supporters of Trump also thought so. With one thing leading to another, and ultimately came the chaotic day of January 6th.

There has even a committee formed in the Senate to question witnesses. Prosecutors have tried to incriminate people who went to the Capitol and Trump allies that promoted it, not to mention the former president, who urged his supporters to storm the building and stop the election from being certified. Some of these supporters brought weapons with them, and already hundreds are charged with trespassing and such crimes. But in the end, the election continued to get certified, and Joe Biden became the next president of the United States.

So was all that trouble worth it? The committee has since known that the insurrection got planned via online platforms weeks in advance. And this leak on the internet caught the attention of many giant social media platforms, who have since put out new regulations to prevent such matters from happening again.

However, it already happened, and Trump may have laid down a clear path for prosecutors to catch him and bring him to trial for his misdoings. What is your opinion? What do you think about the actions of the former president? Will he be convicted or acquitted if he were to go to trial? I guess only time could tell. That’s the end of this production from the New News Newsminute. Thank you for reading, and tune in next time in Part III, where we’ll be looking into Trump and his businesses!
