August 30, 2022555 words2 min read

Hi there, and welcome to Part III of our series, where we’ll look at lawsuits regarding Donald Trump and his business practices. If you haven’t already read the previous parts, I strongly suggest you go back and read them. Assuming you have already read them, then let’s start.

Before becoming President of the United States, Donald Trump was a businessman. However, his business dealings are under question and have multiple investigations. A recent hearing in New York centered on tax affairs and his organization’s assets. There are also lawsuits focusing on things like the inner financial workings of the Trump Organization. There’s even a lawsuit from Mary Trump, the former president’s niece, alleging that Donald Trump, his sister, and his late brother had committed fraud to keep her from getting her fair share of the estate of Trump’s father, Fred Sr.

So what companies are under the former president’s ownership? Donald Trump started at his father’s real estate company known as Trump management, which focused on middle-class rental housing in the New York City boroughs of Brooklyn, Staten Island, and Queens. This company’s name was later changed to Trump Organization by the former president. Donald Trump also completed the construction of a skyscraper in 1983, the Trump Tower, located in Midtown Manhattan.

Regarding the hearing in New York, Trump has chosen not to speak in the courtroom. He has chosen to Plead the Fifth. In a statement he released about the lawsuit, he says that he had no choice in this politically motivated Witch Hunt. So what does Pleading the Fifth mean?

Pleading the Fifth is all about the Fifth Amendment to the US Constitution. Ten such amendments are known together as the Bill of Rights. The Fifth Amendment means that you can choose not to answer questions asked by the judge. Why should one choose this option? Sometimes, a suspect may be afraid of getting self-incriminated. It may seem pretty reasonable. However, what if you were guilty in the first place and wanted to avoid prosecution? That is also why some people think that pleading the Fifth Amendment means the suspect is always guilty, since why would they be afraid to talk? It’s a pretty shady tactic sometimes. The former president also thought so previously, though he changed his mind when he understood the grave situation that one could be in a courtroom.

Other amendments in the Bill of Rights are also quite crucial to United States citizens since they are the fundamentals that protect every citizen’s rights. Some like the right to trial and jury to ensure that no criminal serves time unfairly. Though that doesn’t mean the Bill of Rights has no flaws. Matters like gun rights have gotten argued in court for decades.

Back to the case about Trump businesses. What do you think? Is Trump taking the Fifth mean something shady? Or is he just not going to risk incriminating himself? We may never know the exact thoughts Former President Donald Trump had on his mind or whether what Trump said was right. However, this chase between the US Justice System and Donald Trump continues. That’s the end of this production from the New News Newsminute and the end of this three-part series. Congratulations on finishing it. Thank you for reading, and subscribe to not miss out on future updates.
