Understanding Fractions
Idea: Rational Expression = two algebraic expressions written as a ration (variables & fractions combined)
Fraction fundamentals:
A number over itself = one
e.g. (x+5)/(x+5)=1
e.g. (2x2)/(2x2)=1
A number over one = itself
e.g. (3x-2)/1=3x-2
e.g. (10x2-2)/1=10x2-2
To increase a fraction by a variable = numerator * variable / denominator
e.g. (N*2x2)/x=(2x2*N)/x
e.g. (A*3x3)/2x=(3x3*A)/2x
4. a fraction’s numerator & denominator both times same variable = original fraction
e.g. a/b=(an)/(bn)
e.g. (2x)/(2a)=x/a
