The Heart

Circulatory System (Organ System); transport oxygen & nutrients

Blood vessels; hold blood

Blood; transport oxygen & nutrients

Heart; pump blood

The Heart:

Right Atrium: de-oxygenated blood from the body

Left Atrium: oxygenated blood from the lungs

Pacemaker cells (located in right atrium): sends small electric impulses to regulated heart beat

The 4 Valves: restricts blood flow, allowing only one-way flow of blood

Coronary Arteries: oxygenated blood for heart

Ventricles

The 1st Contraction: Blood in atrium goes into the ventricles

The 2nd Contraction: Blood in ventricles goes out & new blood fills the atrium

Note: the term “vein” means any blood vessels carrying blood toward the heart, while “artery” means any blood vessels carrying blood away from the heart.
