Kidneys - Part 2/3

Fun Fact: Blood cycles constantly through the kidneys. The ‘renal arteries’ supply the kidneys with fresh blood, while the ‘renal veins’ bring the filtered blood out.

Where Does the Kidney Do the Filtration?

In part 1, I mentioned that inside the kidney you’ll find these small ‘filtration systems’ known as nephron, and there’s this even smaller part where the filtration actually takes place, called the Bowman’s Capsule. It is shaped like a bow, and on the inner curve you will find glomerulus, a tangle of blood vessels.

Did you know, that 20% of blood plasma is filtered through, which is quite a ‘bloody fact’ isn’t it?
