A Discussion Essay: Competition vs Cooperation
People have different views on whether competition in daily life is beneficial or not. Although there are legitimate considerations for believing competition should be incorporated into daily life, I believe we should try and promote more cooperation.
On the one hand, competition can be a good source of motivation. When competitive games are used in schools, children tend to show a more active and participating attitude. When a bonus is offered to the best worker of the month, employees tend to work harder and be more productive. These are all examples of healthy rivalry that can bolster enthusiasm to get things done in daily life. It can also improve confidence and determination as well as self-esteem.
On the other hand, I believe that perhaps cooperation is more important in many parts of adult life and cannot be overlooked. In the workspace, adults are expected to work in teams and follow instructions given by superiors. Instead of competing and challenging others, a more cooperating spirit should be used for common goals and not a never-ending desire to win. This can mean more friends, better workspace experiences, and more outgoing personality-wise.
In conclusion, I believe that being cooperative should be encouraged instead of competitiveness.
