It’s Been Five Years of New News!

April 8, 2025760 words4 min read

Two days ago, on April 5th 2025, officially marks five whole years since the first article of New News was published, a memorable milestone that deserves celebration.

Hereby I would want to thank everyone who has supported me throughout these five years, especially you, my reader, for subscribing and reading each of my articles. It’s because of your attention that continues to assure me that I’m helping people understand the world through my work.

So how has New News changed over the years? What will its future look like? In today’s article, we’ll be answering those two questions by going through the history of this English newspaper, as well as my plans for what lays ahead.

Important Dates

On April 5th 2020, I published a simple short article about the Covid-19 outbreaks happening around that time, the first article of this newspaper. However, you would notice that, comparing with recent articles such as this one, that article had no Chinese translations or an audio recording.

May 3rd 2020 was the day the 34th article was published, the first time Chinese translation was added, expanding our reader base.

My first audio recording accompanying the English script was published on December 2nd 2020 (in the 242nd article), unlocking yet another kind of user experience, the ‘listener experience’.

On April 5th, 2021, the 367th article of New News was published, my first weekly in-depth article. Before that, articles were published daily for a year. However, I realized these articles were very shallow in terms of analysis, only stating the facts and no more. But with weekly intervals, I had time to actually “understand” the news so to speak, not just the facts but the background that lead to them as well, the reason why I made that change.

If you go back to the 500th article (October 24th 2023), you would see that I announced yet another transition, turning news articles into study notes. This was because, after writing about the news for more than three-and-a-half years, I started to have this feeling that everything happening in the news was very similar if not the same. It was like history repeating itself, only on smaller scales in daily events. So I made the decision to turn away from writing “traditional news”, and started publishing my GCSE study notes in maths, biology, etc. It was quite satisfying to see that my hard work not only helped myself improve, but could also assist others in their studying journeys.

However, on December 11th 2024, my 596th article reverted back to weekly in-depth news articles. I made this decision as I observed that recent leaps in technological advancement and artificial intelligence were interesting news topics that are extremely relevant in our everyday lives, possibly shaping what the future would look like.

And that’s the timeline of important events of this newspaper, and I’m still writing weekly in-depth articles to this day.

Statistical Analysis

Over the years, I’ve written quite a number of themes, and here are some statistics on the twelve varieties featured in my articles.

For business, commerce, and the economy, I’ve written 34 articles, on international politics and military 83, and 75 on culture. Medicine and scientific literacy both made up considerable portions of my articles as well, with 65 and 50 respectively. Education and philosophy together totaled 34, technology 41, and astronomy 20. I wrote 46 societal news reports, 43 on history law and religion, 27 on sports and entertainment. However, by far, the most articles I’ve written in one category are the GCSE study notes, a mind-blowing 94, including notes on the entire GCSE biology course.

In those 612, 3 were anniversary summaries like this one, and two were transition announcements.

Future Plans

So after five years, what will be the future of New News be like?

Well, to be truthful, I don’t know either. I believe this newspaper will “go with the flow” so to speak, following where the world leads you. To answer the question, I guess it’s just a matter of time.

However, there is an announcement I would like to make. I’m currently working on a website from scratch for this newspaper, where there will be features such as reading and listening to my latest article as well as searching for older ones, and additional features yet to come.

Conclusion

Thank you for reading this article. If you’re looking forward to my website, please support me by liking, subscribing, and sharing if you haven’t yet.

See you next week, where we’ll be diving deep into yet another news topic.
