An Advantages Disadvantages Essay: Admission Fee In Museums

Many museums charge for admission while others are free. Do you think the advantages of charging people for admission to museums outweigh the disadvantages?

It is sometimes argued that the benefits of charging people for entry to museums outweigh the drawbacks. I completely agree with this idea.

Although admission fees can be ‘annoying’ at least and disincentivise individuals from visiting at worst, I believe the benefits that such a practice would bring definitely outweigh the drawbacks.

Firstly, admission fees can greatly support the work of museums and create a better visiting experience. Museums aren’t merely for people to visit; They are also important actors that help preserve local and national cultural identity in the form of obtaining and maintaining artifacts, artworks, etc. That process requires professionals working around the clock with equipment that is typically quite expensive. Furthermore, museums also have relatively high yearly operating expenses, including continuous lighting, air conditioning, personnel costs, etc.

All that requires money, and visitors can help support the important work these museums are doing by paying a small entry fee. This is a mutually beneficial relationship, because museums can also provide higher-quality exhibits as well as a satisfactory experience for visitors.

Some may argue that even if visitors pay a small fee, it doesn’t make much of a difference to big museums. However, although a single individual’s entry fee definitely isn’t going to make a difference, considering the huge amounts of visitors a museum gets in a year, it quickly adds up.

And people wouldn’t need to worry about the money going to waste or being pocketed by museum officials, as regulating authorities such as governments will be there to ensure that every single dollar is put towards useful application.

In conclusion, I believe that the advantages of charging admission fees outweigh the disadvantages.
