Smurfs Are Super!

My name is Brainy Smurf! And today, I'm going to give you a quick recap on us Smurfs, and then, we will more to the fun part!

We Smurfs are blue, for some reason, and we always wear a white hat, pants, and shoes. We’re from Belgium, and live in a small world. Just don't tell Gargamel, the evil wizard, 'cause he'll most likely destroy us, just for some gold.

The reason I'm talking to you is that my “giant” friend Tigger, invited me here, to tell you about Global Smurfs Day. It was first celebrated in 2011, on the closest Saturday to June 25th, 'cause June 25th was our creator, Pirre Culliford’s birthday.

Then, on June 22nd, 2013, 40 ambassadors from 28 different countries, dressed up as Smurfs, to encourage the release of Smurfs 2, which hit theaters that year.

No! Not again Clumsy Smurf, sorry, I gotta go!

Well, that's over. Anyway, I'm Tigger, and I understand that Clumsy must have crashed again. Well, just tell Brainy to answer my question for me, and it’s: Why did Gargamel want to kill the Smurfs for gold? Couldn't he just turn gold out of thin air? With dark magic and all.
